Matt Hurd, Nader Mousavi and Isaac Wheeler were named to the National Law Journal’s list of “Trailblazers” for their work steering deals that have shaped their respective practice areas.
Matt was named an “Emerging Therapies & Life Sciences Trailblazer” for his involvement in some of the most impactful deals in the healthcare, pharmaceuticals and life sciences industries for the past 30 years. In his profile, he describes how S&C came to represent growing, innovative pharmaceuticals companies. “[We had] an absence of any conflicts issues, [so that] gave us complete freedom to seek work from the exciting, more innovative companies in this space,” Matt explained. “[T]hat’s given us an intriguing and thriving practice where we often represent innovators in blockbuster deals, such as our recent representation of Seagen in its $43 billion acquisition by Pfizer—the largest all-cash biopharma acquisition in history.”
Nader was named an “Intellectual Property Trailblazer” for his work representing OpenAI in its partnership with Microsoft to develop and commercialize AI technology. On the importance of this emerging technology, Nader said: “OpenAI has revolutionized AI, and has spurred a number of new developments outside of the artificial intelligence sphere. For every task you can think of, there’s now an AI integration.”
Isaac was named a “Tax Law Trailblazer” for helping structure the largest Reverse Morris Trust ever completed in AT&T’s sale of its WarnerMedia business to Discovery, which won him The American Lawyer’s “Dealmaker of the Year” in 2022. “Sometimes the sheer size of a deal can push a structure away from too much complexity,” Isaac noted. “I hope that the success of this deal from a tax perspective encourages companies to pursue creative strategies (even if complicated) to unlock value for shareholders, regardless of a potential deal’s size.”
